Niya felt abandoned by her parents at an early age; blaming her mother for marking her body with the stripes that gave her terraforming powers. Rather than be hurt by anyone else, Niya never stayed long enough to form lasting attachments. Meeting Maahes however, the pair became inseparable battle partners.

Niya met Raikiri after she passed out in the street. Despite trying to slip away, Fuyumi asked her to take her phone number, which she reluctantly did. Later, after encouragement from Maahes, Niya decided to stay a while longer, only to find Raikiri in battle with a rampaging Lok. Using her powers she assisted them in taking him down. Despite another attempt to leave, Niya accepted Natsumi’s request to join Raikiri for a little while longer.

She ultimately left the group to be by herself, but after some pestering joined up with Leon to travel with him.
